ELISA, an abbreviated form of Enzyme Link Immuno Sorbent,
can be employed to assess the existence of certain antigens or antibodies. The
technique involves using an identified antigen to combine with the correct
unknown antibody. A minor enzyme is needed to connect the antigen with the
antibody. The enzyme releases a signal which may be measured after having added
the ultimate chemical to the reaction. The quantum of signal generated this way
equals the quantity of the unidentified antibody under analysis.
An antibody comprises of a chain of four polypeptides, two
of which are known as light chains and an equal number of heavy chains, but all
